CDM Smith Transportation Inspector II (Road/Bridge/Highway) in Wilmington, North Carolina
CDM Smith's Transportation Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) Team is seeking Transportation Inspector candidates to work in locations throughout the state of North Carolina.

Our NC Offices are seeking a level II candidate comparable to a NCDOT Technician II candidate to inspect and monitor construction activities at the project site(s). Inspector II must be able to perform the most complex inspection activities for at least 2 or the 5 categories of inspection: 1) Roadway 2) Bridges 3) Drainage 4) Erosion & Control 5) Maintenance & Traffic. Candidate will work under limited supervision or direct supervision depending on the demonstrated knowledge for the assignment. Work will require the knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; knowledge of geometry and basic mathematics; ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications; and communications ability.
Performing both complex and routine/standard inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
Uses higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform inspection.
Works under limited supervision or direct supervision depending on the demonstrated knowledge for the specific assignment.
Reviewing drawings to prepare for the inspection. Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected.
Documenting and communicating the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor.
Transportation Inspector II (Road/Bridge/Highway)
CDM Smith Employment Type:
Associates degree in a Construction related field with 0 Years prior experience required in highway construction or High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years progressive experience in highway construction and possesses proven ability to perform assignments effectively.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
The position requires a minimum of 8 hours per day of walking, standing, lifting, and climbing outdoors in all types of climates. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Prefer certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies).
NCDOT Highway Standards and experience is a plus.
